Roof Liner - The roof liner is a protective surface plate applied to the roof area of the inside of the unit. It is reflective to divert microwave beams around the unit and can be easily bought in a cut to size format. The liner also protects the wave guide from residue food and beverage spatters, dust, and the general grime that builds up over time. Most food produce some grease and/or steam during the cooking process which builds up on the inside of the unit. Keeping your microwave clean is very important and the roof liner makes this easier by covering tricky components. It is possible for the magnetron to short out should other elements become choked with food residue and grease.

Switches - The switch component of a microwave oven is very important. Their design must be tested for durability and very high repeat use. The switch connects and disconnects supply to the unit by pressing a button on the front of the oven. When the button is pushed the microwave is either activated or deactivated. It is an electrical switch which requires very little physical force to activate and their durability means they can be used up to 1 million times without failing.

Synchronous Motors - This component is an AC motor which rotates in synch with the frequency of the AC current. They contain electromagnets which create a magnetic field that spins in time with the current. They run at a constant speed and are constructed of two basic elements, a stator and a rotor. The stator is static and does not move, the rotor, as it's name dictates, rotates. Synchronous motors are found in a number of common household and industrial items such as clocks, and tape players. In the microwave oven the motor is located centrally in the base and moves the turntable on which food is placed. The motor ensures a smooth and constant speed of rotation to help food cook evenly throughout. The motor turns the plate in a domestic unit at around 3rpm.
