Switches – The switch component of a microwave oven is very important. Their design must be tested for durability and very high repeat use. The switch connects and disconnects supply to the unit by pressing a button on the front of the oven. When the button is pushed the microwave is either activated or deactivated. It is an electrical switch which requires very little physical force to activate and their durability means they can be used up to 1 million times without failing.
Transformer – The transformer is the microwave component which increases the voltage of the alternating current of the oven, this may be referred to as ‘stepping up’ the voltage. The type of transformer used in microwave ovens is a very powerful component and should not be touched. Transformers usually consist of two wire coils wrapped around a core, called primary and secondary windings.
